A Baby's Gotta Do, What a Baby's Gotta Do!-Rugrats Nail Art Tribute

Rugrats was an American animated series that ran on Nickelodeon for 13 years, spawned three movies that were released in theaters, and a Spin-Off called "All Growned Up". The show debuted after Doug as the second Nicktoon on August 11, 1991.

Rugrats consists of a group of babies that go on adventures using their imaginations and household items to reach their goals. Although the babies can speak to each other, their speech is unintelligible to grown-ups.

The Rugrats episodes were unique in that during the holidays, the episodes tapped into different cultures such as telling the story of Hanukkah and doing an episode about the meaning of Kwanzaa.

In addition to being a multi-cultural program, the show also challenged gender norms such as showing Charlotte, Angelica's mother, as a no-nonsense Business Executive paired with Drew, an Accountant who was more the sympathetic and attentive parent.

"If Angelica's ever gonna make it in a male dominated power structure she's gotta eat breathe, drink, and sweat self esteem!"-Charlotte Pickles

The show also crushed stereotypes by featuring Susie Carmichael hailing from a two-parent household with a Dad who wrote for the Dummy Bears (a fictional show based off the care bears) and a Mother who was a Harvard Grad who worked as a pediatrician (as well as dabbled in art and was skilled in the kitchen). I could have sworn that I read somewhere that Susie's family was based loosely off the Huxtables.

Whether it was to watch the babies duke it out over who gets chocolate milk in their bottle or if it was to watch Susie put Angelica in her place for the millionth time, I watched this show religiously.  I can't tell you how many times I got in trouble for imitating Angelica's famous scowl.

I chose to represent the 6 original gang in my manicure today (no disrespect to Dil and Kimi who were welcome additions).

I have Chuckie on the thumb followed by Tommy, Susie (the middle finger because she was assertive) , Angelica (the ring finger because she's spoiled), & Phil/Lil. I chose to have the twins share a finger in order to make room for Susie who became my favorite character since her introduction.

Grab your Reptar bars, put on that Cynthia cassette tape, and take a look at the video below of the process of putting together this manicure.
